The former goalkeeper, Pasquale D’Amato, has died in Hobart at the age of 76.
D’Amato arrived in Australia in January 1956 from San Benedetto dei Marsi, in Aquila Province, in Italy.
He played for Juventus and Croatia in Hobart in the 1950s and 1960s.
D’Amato was a member of the Tasmanian State squad which visited Adelaide to play South Australia in 1961.
D’Amato was still a regular at Hobart Zebras games up until his final illness this year.
Zebras and New Town Eagles observed a minute’s silence in his memory prior to their Premier League match at KGV Park on Friday, 24 August 2007.
Zebras won the title by drawing this match and D’Amato would have enjoyed the club’s success and the ensuing celebrations had he been at the match.
He was a bricklayer by trade and kept himself fit through exercise until very recently.
He is survived by his wife, Maria, and daughters, Loreta and Pat. Donato predeceased him.
